Just got invited to my first invitational wakeboard comp, this one up in Auckland seems to be really fun. Luckily I had already planned to visit Auckland and our office up there so this wakeboard comp fits perfectly into does plans.
Last year I was involved from top to toes with Lund Wakefest 2011, it became very successful and the largest wakeboard event in Sweden, with an awesome audience of 1000 people and 30 of the nordic top riders. This year I try to help my friends in Lunds Extremsportsällskap as much as I can. Now has the 2012 teaser just come out, have a look and make sure to go to the best for fest event of the year in Lund.
LESS is more!
Have´nt updated this blog for long time now. I have lost my camera and been focusing lots on work lately, but in the weekends I have managed to get some time on the water, both in waves and behind boat. Last weekend me and some new kiteboarding friends where up Taranaki way for surf and kite. It was a great weekend and I got to try a kite for first time. It was very scary and got blown away along the beach one time before I somehow got the feeling for how to stay in one place, hope I will be able to learn the noble skill of flying soon.
Last week we WindyWellyWakeboarders set up a small photo shot a Thursday evening by the waterfront. We winched under the green lighted wharf and got some cool shots. The riding was´nt that hard only the swim out with the rope for every run

Stoked to be one of the riders in the official winchfest movie, only been wakeboarding for less than a year so greater things should come in the feature

I was up there last weekend to help out and manage to get caught on this picture.
I just got my invitational rider ticket to Winchfest that will make history the 28th-29th January up in Taranaki, New Zealand. There will be an absolutely amazing weekend with live bands and a big wakeboard competition on a sick winch set-up! I am really excited, just take a look at the photos from the building process below!

Last weekend we planned to go out in the harbour with Ben’s and Luke’s Sanger, but when we had launched the boat in the water and got out from the marine the waves was too big for the boat. We couldn’t cross over the bay to where the wind was calm so we had to give up. Instead we picked Mark’s home made 13 hp winch and went to the city lagoon.

We had very fun crossing the 200 m lagoon over and over splashing on people in canoes and paddle boats, Mark splashed two small girls pretty bad. A lot of people passed by and stopped to watch us and even some wanted to try. Without any wetsuit in the 12 degrees cold water we laughed at the guys taking some of the worst falls we have seen. For the trouble we got some beers to drink in the sun.

Later that night me and my flatmates took the car out on the end of Mirimar to watch all the fireworks in town, as it was Guy Fawkes Night, really spectacular.

On Sunday morning me Reuben, Andy Mac and our weekend flatmate “Smoke Dog” drove the 2,5 h drive out to the east coast to find waves to surf. It was a clear blue day and the scenery was amazing out at the coast and we could see all the way to the high mountains on the South Island. We also saw seals playing in the waves close to the shore as we drove by.

We drove past all the surf spot on that bit of coastline but could not find any that was as good as we had hoped. The road came to an end at a lighthouse and we decided to take a break.

On our way back the road we stopped at the surfspot and even though the guys was not that keen to surf they finally decided to have a go. The conditions were not perfect with a strong cross wind and unevenly braking waves. The wind died after some time tough and we got some good waves. After 2 h Reuben unfortunately manage to break the fin attachment on his new board when he hit some of the rocks close to shore and that was the end of that session. All together it was a fun day and on our way back we stopped for fish & chips (which I always regret I eat afterwards).

Last weekend was spent up at Lake Rotarangi with WindyWellyWakeboardes. We had two days of great riding with flat water and not too bad weather. We were seven good people, six of us riding on Elly’s Centurion boat. We stayed in a farmer cabbin with all facilities 5 min from the boat ramp and ate good food. The Lake is fairly remote, 30 min of sick-sacking roads from nearest town. It takes 1.5 hour to drive from one end to the other in the long Lake that ones was a river, but we never drove further than half the lake. I had some good runs on Terry’s old wooden Hyperlite Roam, unfortunately I managed to break it when I took a fall and now I feel very sorry for it.

I spent the rest of the weekend riding Ben’s board, but as he rides with fins which I don’t like at all, I have to take them of before every ride. I am really grateful that they let me borrow there gear but soon I will have my own board. I also manage to make some progress landing blind bs 180´s now on much bigger wake than behind Terry´s boat, landed my Tantrum which I learned during our previous wakeboard trip to Mangakino but since than I have struggled to get right. I am stoked to also have landed my first 360 wake2wake thanks to the guys letting me have 6-7 falls before I landed it.

We also did some wakesurfing behind the boat and this time I found it much easier and fun, I could easily let go of the rope and ride up and down the wake smoothly, I also almost manage a 360 spin on the wake but when I had finish it I was to far down the wake to work my way back.

In the week I found out that there will be held a really cool wakeboard competition “Winchfest“ up in Taranaki in the end of January. I have registered and hope I will be able to qualify to the comp and that I soon get my own Slingshotboard so I can start getting my shred up.

This Sunday I was out early on Terry’s boat together with Terry, Mark and Bessel (Terry’s dog). There was a nice day with some small clouds and 10 ºC in the water. When we where out a small Penguin came swimming past the boat, a fun surprise. Terry also told us to look out for Killer Whales (Orcas) that had been spotted in the harbour during the week. Unfortunately we didn’t see any but we had a good time anyway and I had some practise on my w2w backside 180 to blind. I was riding an old board of Terry that was one of the first wooden core boards with slick bottom and it was awesome. I stomped clean w2w bs 180 with grabs at the end and when I was all tired I got on the wakeskate for my last session, a fun difference and harder to ride but more fun just turning and spinning on the surface.

After a quick dinner a walked down to the beach with my surfboard and had a long surfing session. It was a tuff one because I was out in the middle of the bay where the waves break quick and are not that good, but I caught a lot of big and fast waves and one that was surely my biggest so far (I have no perspective on how big it was in surf terms, but it was bigger than myself standing), going so fast that my board wobbled under my feet, awesome feeling.
